【Report】The 2nd Corporate Exchange Meeting in 2024 “From Okayama! Practical International Chemistry Seminar for Regional Cooperation”

On 14 (Sat) December 2024, the second company exchange meeting of the year was held, with Ms Yuri Nakamura, Department of General Technology, Okayama University, presenting the topic “From Okayama! Practical International Chemistry Seminar for Regional Cooperation”.

Ms Nakamura has long been actively involved in exchange projects such as the International Chemistry Experiment Seminar, Japan-China Summer School and East Asia Cooperation Seminar. She spoke about her know-how in undertaking these projects, what she pays attention to, how she connects universities, junior high schools and high schools, and companies, her innovations for regional revitalisation, and her outlook for the future. During the Q&A session that followed, the participants engaged in lively discussions on a variety of topics, including the common issue of how to approach junior and senior high school students.  

In a group discussion on the theme ‘What we can do for the next generation’, participants introduced what they are currently working on and the challenges they face. Participants from a wide range of backgrounds, from civil servants, teachers and business people to university students, gave their comments and impressions, and seemed to have gained good hints from each other.

As one of the three pillars of its activities, the organisation provides a forum for information exchange among individuals and organisations that support its activities.For this year’s second corporate exchange meeting, we are pleased to invite Ms Yuri Nakamura from Okayama University, Department of General Technology, to present a topic of discussion with our cooperation.  

Ms Nakamura has been involved in research related to materials chemistry since 1999, while at the same time continuing to organise international chemistry laboratory classes, Japan-China summer schools and East Asia cooperation seminars.The number of participants in these exchange programmes ranges from 6 to 75 years old and has exceeded 1,240 to date.In the Corona Disaster, they are also involved in online exchanges that include chemical experiments and focus on the development of the next generation.

Ms Nakamura will talk about her know-how and achievements in continuously organising seminars in Okayama, with the cooperation of local companies, as well as her thoughts on planning.

In the second half of the exchange meeting, we would like to have a time to talk with you about your impressions of Ms Nakamura’s talk, the challenges you face, future cooperation and prospects, etc.

<Profile of Yuri Nakamura>
Mar 1999 Graduated from the Department of Biofunctional Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Okayama University.
Apr 1999- Worked as a classroom technical staff member at Okayama University.
Qualified as a Bachelor of Education (Engineering and Technology) and Science Communicator. Engaged in activities to connect Okayama and the world, particularly in East Asia, through chemistry. Recipient of the Chemical Communication Award 2022 (individual), the 10th Women Engineer Development Merit Award and other awards.
From October 2024, she is reskilling to study organisational management at the Graduate School of Social and Cultural Sciences, Okayama University, with the aim of obtaining an MBA.
